ELEMENTS OF VISUAL LANGUAGE:

Below are my five best works of the project.

1. In this we had to represent each line using different types of dots. So I made two outcomes of the line in which the dots are overlapping each other and also played a little with their size.

2. For this we were asked to represent clouds using different size of dots. So I decided to put them in concentric circles to make it look more fun and even shaded some to show depth.

3. Again it was the representation of clouds using dots but this time I put them in a circular wavy manner to make it look decorative. Also the black part shows that it is a rainy cloud.

4. It is the representation of rhythm using dots and what's better to show rhythm than your own heartbeat? So I made the heartbeat lines using dots.

5. The task was to show tonal variation using pen which wasn't easy because unlike pencil, pen isn't for shading. So I had to look to for another method and I came up with cross hatching technique which is pretty common but not easy.

THEMATIC REPRESENTAION:

When I was making clouds using dots, I thought why does the rainy clouds always have to be black/grey? Even though I knew the scientific reason behind this, I didn't like how their color represented a darkness for some people. I love rainy season and the rainy clouds make me so happy.

So I decided to give them a decorative look showing movement as if they are also dancing to the rhythm of raindrops. I even colored some parts as black showing that they are carrying water. This cloud is filled with happiness and life which they shower on us.

DAILY DRAWING DOCUMENT:

For me this is my best work as I just kept drawing it again and again overlapping each other which somehow created a composition. Besides I even did some rendering in it to show depth.

This one is my least effective drawing since I was going for 3 point perspective (Bird's view) which didn't come out the way I thought. I realized that I needed to observe it more closely in order to capture that view.

ILLUSTRATED GLOSSARY:

1. Rhythm: a repeated pattern or sound

2. Daily Drawing Document: a part of our logbook in which we have to draw 10 pages everyday so as to improve our line quality as well as observation skills.

3. Line Bank: a depositary of different types of lines.

4. Tonal Variation: The use of shades and tints to give a 3D effect.

THOUGHTS:

I believe that this new way of learning in which we are asked to do the work rather than learn it though books is quite an approach to prepare us for the design world. I believe that the concept of having studios instead of classrooms gives us an experience of how a designer works.

Just like every coin has two sides, this system of learning also has both advantages and disadvantages. Starting with the advantages, the daily discussions and feedback are quite helpful as they tap into our weaknesses and there's always a chance of improvement. 'Practice makes one perfect' and the concept of 'learning by doing' is a way to achieve that perfection.

Despite all this there are some disadvantages too as there's a lot of work which has put pressure on us because it is something which is very new for all of us. This might seem a little stressing at first but it is the building block of our career and in the long run this is what is gonna make us a great designer.

KEY LEARNINGS:

Through this project I realized how something which is so small (dot) might be the very beginning of something else (a line which then creates forms). This project was just like its name laying down the foundation for our future as designers. There were times when I faced struggles but then it widened my horizon of learning by continuous practice.

It is a great way to create beautiful compositions. This learning will prove to be very helpful in future by making us look at things through different shapes rather than its original form.

The assessment was per my expectations and I was satisfied with it. However, I knew that there is a scope of improvement and decided to...
