PRE WORK:
Understanding the dimensions and parts of the object through drawing.
The sample I chose to study about was a binder clip.

TASK 4: Form Observation through drawing
The objective of the task was to observe and understand the interpersonal relationship between form and purpose of the object; how it interacts with its user and what is its utility.

INSIGHTS:
I realized that drawing on an isometric grid is not easy as one might be able to draw a cube easily but when it comes to an isosceles triangle, it is very difficult to draw that.
Studying the form of the object while drawing makes us question as to why does it have a certain shape or look.
I understood the ratio between the proportions and was also able to scale up the object easily while drawing.
Studying the various parts in details helps us to get a better understanding of the object as a whole.
RESOURCE STUDY:
While drawing my object and understanding its parts, I even watched a short video on LOTA that was given there. It is about a Design Couple Charles & Ray Eames who during their visit to India came across the Lota, which according to them is a "simple vessel of everyday use that stands out as perhaps the greatest, and the most beautiful".
It helped me understand how a particular object can have different designs in order to be used in a certain manner. We don't realize it but even the simplest objects in our surrounding have a certain form which is unique to be able to perform its intended function.
TASK 5: ERGONOMIC STUDY
Ergonomics is the study of people in their working environment. It deals with designing products and systems according to the needs and convenience of the people.

ERGONOMIC STUDY THROUGH MAKING:
In this we were required to make our object using the materials provided to us. I was asked to work with sunboard and wire.

It wasn't easy to make the object. While making it, it somehow got scaled-up a bit. There were a lot of difficulties when I had to curve the ends of the sunboard as it would break. But ultimately I was able to overcome all the challenges and complete my 3D model.
INSIGHTS:
Making the 3D model was far more explanatory than making its drawing as now I understood the material aspect of it.
The curved parts in any object are mostly given so that one may not get hurt due to the sharp ends.
Even the proportion and size of certain parts (such as the handles) are made keeping in mind the area of contact with the human body.
